Mixed Media - Acrylic Paint, Markers On Canvas
Description
This is one of my first abstract fluid paintings, created on canvas using poured acrylic paints & medium. I’m truly impressed by how amazing this painting technique is. The process of creating is almost magical, as lines, shapes and colors flow, move, mix, morph, fuse together, appear to form and rearrange before one’s eyes, seemingly by itself, resembling the great Walt Dysney’s masterpiece “Fantasia”. There’s great deal of creative freedom and spontaneity in this process and the results can be highly unpredictable and surprising. Still, there’s some preparation (selection of colors, pre–mix, etc) and some tweaking/ paint manipulation in a number of different ways along the way is required from an artist. And every painting comes out completely unique: no two are alike.
At this stage, I like using this fluid painting technique in combination with some others and as such, I prefer to cover with the poured paint only the center part of the surface. Also, I like to use different tools (sticks, etc) to move, adjust and curl the edges, as the “spirit moves” me at that moment. After the paint is completely dried, I may add some additional touches (to the painted center itself, surrounding unpainted surface, or both) to emphasize the contrast, embellish, add graphical element, etc. Thus, the final result may qualify as mixed media in some cases.
“Fluid Irises” is my original fluid abstract acrylic painting on 16”x20” (staples out of sight at the back), stretched, cotton canvas. I used permanent markers to trace/ outline color-shapes, which is one of my favorite technique, adding some graphical mosaic element to the painting. As I was creating this artwork, I've noticed the resemblance of shapes and colors with Van Gogh, specifically, with his "Irises". I then, painted the surrounding exposed canvas bright yellow (one of his favorite colors) to emphasize this resemblance and contrast between multi-colored dynamic of the main image and solid–color static feel of the background.
Colors: yellow, purple, copper, green, turquoise, Prussian blue, gold, black (outline)
The painting is ready to hang and finished in UV protective gloss varnish. The sides are painted so there's no need to frame it.
The painting comes signed (initialed) on the front and also with a Certificate of Authenticity.
