One day, I imagined what would a fairy fashion model look like (if they actually existed) and ended up painting this fantasy piece –– an acrylic, illustration style painting on 16”x20” (staples out of sight at the back), stretched, cotton canvas, using vivid, jewel–toned hues and golden relief outliner –– a thin, pale, waify–looking, elaborately outfitted fairy girl, who seems uncomfortable wearing such hefty costume and headdress… even her wings are encrusted/ embroidered and too heavy for flying. Instead, the fairy sits on a ground in a rather unnatural, uncomfortable pose. Maybe, she’s a model who’s taking part in a photo shoot…
In this, primarily decorative painting, one, however, may find a deeper message of our cultural perceptions and criteria of beauty, represented by unrealistic expectations of a unnaturally and dangerously super–thin female body, depicted by high–fashion models.

My bio in a nutshell... Born in the former USSR, where I majored in music (Masters degree in Musicology) and freelanced as an illustrator. Emigrated to the USA in 1976. Learned computer programming and made my living working in the corporate IT world (mostly, on Wall St.) since the early 80s. Also, freelanced as an illustrator, took part in several art exhibitions during this period. Relocated to PA in 2005. Currently, I reside in Churchville, (Bucks Co.) with my husband and two cats. I paint, illustrate, design and give private art lessons. I exhibit and sell my artwork (mostly, online), as well as work on commission.
